Governments at the centre and in the states offer a wide range of support for enterprises, from credit guarantees and interest subsidies to technology upgrades, certification support and market access. Yet a large share of eligible businesses never benefit.
The reason is rarely eligibility. It is readiness. Schemes reward enterprises whose records are in order: current registrations, clean financial statements, documented ownership, valid licences and a coherent project rationale. When any of these is missing, applications stall, get rejected or are never attempted at all.
The enterprises that benefit consistently treat scheme access as an ongoing capability rather than a one-time application. They maintain a compliance calendar. They keep financial and statutory documents current. They review new and revised schemes periodically against their growth plans, and they align applications with real investment decisions rather than chasing incentives for their own sake.
The reason is rarely eligibility. It is readiness.
There is a second-order benefit. The discipline that makes a business scheme-ready is the same discipline that makes it bank-ready, investor-ready and buyer-ready. In that sense, preparing for public support is really preparing for growth.
A practical starting point: list every registration, licence and certification your business holds, note its validity, and identify what is missing for the two or three schemes most relevant to your next investment. That single exercise often reveals more opportunity than any brochure.
